Christina is a golf player looking to increase performance with her playing, gain wider range of motion and last but not least, wanting to root confidence about her game.
Christina’s main issue isn’t her technique, as a matter of fact she’s been playing golf for thirty years and has had numerous coaching hours to learn about the various tools to improve her playing.
SO WHAT’S HER PROBLEM AND HOW AM I ABLE TO HELP HER INCREASE ORGANIC PERFORMANCE LASTINGLY?
Christina experiences stress the moment she hits the ball. What we needed to fix was the issue behind it. We found out she was a very stressed child because of her parents expectations. Everything she felt like doing spontaneously, she was always criticiSed for or prevented from doing. She carries this mindset of “fearing to do something wrong” all the time, thus not trusting her own instinct and needs.
HOW DID I HELP HER MAKE HER WAY BACK INTO CONFIDENCE?
- By making her aware of the roadblock she carries with her while playing and the reason why. This is what I call the phase of Acknowledgment.
- By helping her create a personal short Mantra to help align her body with her mind just when she needs it. I call this the power of “Here & Now” moment.
With this approach, I’m trying to help Christina acknowledge her issue positively because it always helps to know, where we come from, but also understand why we’ve been behaving a certain way. Especially if this way hasn’t served us well so far.
For example, we were conditioned to act a certain way because of a specific context (for example as a child, we were expected to act a certain way, according to parents expectations and rules). Even if now, the context has changed, we haven’t changed our attitude to adapt to a new reality! That’s called conditioning and the root of it is beliefs.
BELIEFS AREN’T JUST A MINDSET. THEY SETTLE IN OUR BODY AND PREVENT US FROM THRIVING.
To stop this pattern and deliver the best results in body and mind, we’re better off figuring out first the reason for blocking or forcing. Once this has happened, it provides us with a feeling of freedom. Then, we can finally tap into the present moment. Because it is thru full presence here and now that our best performance of movement and life awaits us.
